Real estate firm Emaar Properties has unveiled plans to expand The Dubai Mall in UAE, which is claimed to be the world’s largest shopping and entertainment complex.
The extension of the mall will include luxury homes, serviced apartments, a hotel and a shopping boulevard featuring stores of international brands.
The expansion will be connected to the entertainment and cinema district of the mall near The Address Downtown Dubai.
Emaar Properties managing director Ahmad Al Matrooshi said, "With the mall expansion to feature a modern hotel, luxury homes and serviced residences, designed to the world-class standards associated with Emaar, we are further contributing to strengthening Dubai’s powerful growth drivers; the tourism, retail, hospitality and business environments."
Emaar has completed the masterplan for the extension and construction is expected to start soon and complete in phases.
The developer said it will soon launch the sale of luxury homes and serviced residences in the new development.
The Waterfront Promenade of the Dubai Mall provides views of The Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalfia, the world’s tallest building.
The Dubai Mall currently features 1,200 stores and 160 food and beverage outlets, as well as an aquarium and underwater zoo.
In February 2012, the developer said it will add 1 million ft² to the Dubai Mall, the 500-acre mega development, which Emaar describes as ‘The Centre of Now.’
The UAE Government recently announced that Emaar Properties and Dubai Holding will construct a new city in Dubai that will feature a park 30% larger than Hyde Park in London, UK.
