Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has secured a $515m contract from the Al Habtoor Group to build a luxury hotel complex as part of the $1.33bn Habtoor Palace hotels development in Dubai, UAE.
HLG will be responsible for the construction of a hotel complex, claimed by the company to be the biggest in the Middle East, comprising a five-level podium, one 36-storey tower and one 25-storey tower within a gross floor area of 350,000m².
The Habtoor Palace hotels development will comprise 1,600 hotel rooms, spread across three hotels. It will feature a Las Vegas-style aqua theatre, a French provincial-inspired garden and dining venues.
HLG CEO and managing director Laurie Voyer said: "We have successfully completed a number of projects for the Al Habtoor Group in the past, including the Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa and Metropolitan Palace Hotel and have always maintained a good working relationship with them."
"We look forward to working with them again to create a development that will be a landmark for not only Dubai, but the entire Middle East," Voyer said.
The new development will be located on the site of the existing Metropolitan Hotel in Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road at the southernmost point of the Old Town development, which includes the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall.
Design for the development started in January 2012, while demolition of the existing Metropolitan Hotel is scheduled to commence at the end of March 2012 to make way for the new development.
Construction of the new complex is expected to begin in June 2012, with completion scheduled for the second half of 2016.
HLG is continuing to pursue its strategy of diversification with ventures into new markets such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, according to Voyer.
"While the Habtoor Palace is a Dubai building project, our future growth will come from major infrastructure projects in markets outside the UAE, particularly Qatar and Saudi Arabia," Voyer said.
