Henning Larsen Architects has secured a contract to design a serviced apartment hotel, named Al Khorayef Tower, in Saudi Arabia.
The hotel will be situated between Dammam and Al Khobar in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
Henning Larsen said the design approach for the Al Khorayef Tower was inspired by traditional Saudi Arabian building design.
Claimed to be a modern interpretation of local traditions and culture, the Al Khorayef Tower will feature spaces for public recreation.
As per the plans, the three lower levels of the facility will feature destination retail, accessed from the ‘retail plaza’, which will function as the entrance and as a public space with coffee shops.
Plans also include 190 serviced apartments, which will be built from level four and upwards and house a reception, library and breakfast lounge.
A pool and an exercise area will be built at the top floor with a view of the city and the roof will feature a recreational area for residents.
Elements of the facade will rotate to protect the apartments from direct sunlight.
Henning Larsen said the landscape around the tower is ‘continued up through the building, providing semi-public recreational spaces for all users of the facility’.
The detailed design of the project has started, while construction is expected to commence in 2014.
