The Kansas State University football team is planning to begin work on the $75m West Stadium Center project at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas, US on 28 April 2012.
The conceptual and schematic designs are both complete, with design development phase and construction documents currently in progress. AECOM and Heery Design are the architects, while GE Johnson and Mortenson Construction will serve as construction managers.
The first phase of the six-part plan was finished prior to the last year’s football season, adding new WCs to the east-side upper deck and a new AstroTurf infill. Phase two will include a new west-side structure that will be built to replace the existing press box.
There will also be a new limestone structure, designed to give acess to the Kansas State University campus. The structure will provide a northwest gateway to the K-State campus that will connect the athletics complex to the site.
The 250,000ft² facility will offer enhanced amenities for the team’s fans and student-athletes, while replacing the stadium’s late 60s-style facilities and the Dev Nelson Press Box, opened in 1993.
The new structure will include expansive concession and WC facilities, a new ticket office and retail locations. It will also feature a K-State hall of honour within a large main concourse, a student-athlete dining hall, new club and box seats, as well as additional premium suites and a new press and media area.
The enhancements will more than double the number of WC fixtures from the current structure and more than triple the concession points of sale, as well offer an increase in ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) seating, larger entry gates and a much bigger concourse area of 40,000ft².
The university’s $18m basketball training facility is expected to be completed by July or August 2012 and other facility upgrades are on the way, including new outdoor tennis courts, as well as a new indoor training facility for the college rowing team.
