Lend Lease has opened the £33m Chobham Academy, designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), in the London 2012 Olympic Park.
Run by the Harris Federation, the academy was previously used as a LOCOG administration centre with athlete’s facilities as part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Lend Lease oversaw the design, development and construction of the campus and anticipates that it will become a focal point for local families living at East Village.
The circular shaped main building will feature classrooms and playgrounds.
The building also features a roof terrace, a theatre, a large sports hall, a suite of music rooms and a lecture hall.
Other features include playing fields and tennis courts.
The academy specialises in literature and the performing arts and will serve the local communities of Leyton and Stratford as well as the community of the post-Games Park.
AHMM said that key to the design of the facility was understanding where the buildings should be placed on the site and where playground and sports playing fields should be situated.
Lend Lease has been responsible for the design, development and construction of East Village, on behalf of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
Chobham Academy is situated on the edge of the new neighbourhood and, apart from the Academy, East Village will also feature 2,818 new homes, community health facilities and more than 10ha of public space.
