Architectural firm Populous has said that companies based in London, UK, are being encouraged to do more business with Russia, ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Populous stated that many companies profited from the knowledge and expertise gained during the London 2012 Olympic Games and have been awarded contracts for next year’s Games in Sochi, Russia.
The firm is designing the Fisht Olympic Stadium for Sochi 2014 and is also working with the architects of Kazan, Saransk and Rostov-on-Don stadia for the FIFA World Cup.
The Fisht Olympic Stadium, named after Mount Fisht, is proposed to be built in Sochi’s Olympic Park.
The stadium’s exterior will be covered in a translucent, crystalline skin and the main level of the facility will be raised on a landscaped mound, to provide excellent all-round from inside.
The stadium will have a seating capacity of about 40,000 people and will incorporate several sustainable elements, such as natural lighting and ventilation.
Populous said the in-built flexibility of the stadium’s design means its capacity can adapt over time to provide event configurations from 45,000 seats for FIFA World Cup matches to 25,000 seats for local matches.
