Real estate developer Nakheel is evaluating bids for the construction of a 136,000m² retail and entertainment complex at Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE and expects to award the contract in the first quarter of this year.
The Pointe project will feature 84 town houses and a 608,000ft² waterfront community recreational area.
It will also feature a community centre with ten retail outlets featuring a supermarket, four food and beverage outlets, a fitness centre, sports courts, jogging track and parking spaces.
Nakheel awarded a contract for ground improvement work at the site of The Pointe in 2013.
The company said the completed ground preparation included vibro-compaction, topographic survey and factual site investigation work. Leasing is expected to start in January of this year.
The Pointe will be accessible through the Palm monorail system, which is planned to be linked with the mainland tram system.
Nakheel said that The Pointe is one of several new developments underway at Palm Jumeirah, which include Nakheel Mall, The Boardwalk and Palm West Beach.
The company’s Dubai portfolio includes Palm Jumeirah, The World, Deira Islands, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Heights, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Warsan Village and International City.
Nakheel’s retail developments include Dragon Mart, Ibn Battuta Mall, Nakheel Mall and Hotel and other hotels at Palm Jumeirah, Ibn Battuta and Dragon Mart.
The combined projects span about 14,000ha and provide homes for more than 130,000 people.
