Real estate developer Nakheel has unveiled three new waterfront destination developments in Dubai, UAE, which will feature tourism, cultural, business and residential facilities.
The three projects, which are currently in at the design stage, include the Deira project, the Boardwalk at Palm Jumeirah and the West Beach Development, which is also on the Palm.
The Deira project is a four-island, mixed-use waterfront destination development, which will add over 40km, including 21km of beachfront, to Dubai’s existing coastline.
Masterplanned by Nakheel, the project will provide infrastructure for the development of hotels and resorts, serviced apartments, retail centres and individual homes.
Nakheel said it will develop the whole of the south island, creating a creek side destination.
The project includes a night market designed in the style of a traditional Arabic souk, with over 1,400 retail units and restaurants as well as several anchor stores.
Plans also include a 250-room hotel, an amphitheatre with seating capacity for 30,000 people, green space and a creek marina to house large yachts in addition to other marinas.
Nakheel chairman Ali Rashid Lootah said, "This project will contribute significantly to the Government of Dubai’s tourism strategy."
Under the second project, Nakheel will transform the 11km crescent that protects Palm Jumeirah into a destination for walking, shopping and dining.
The Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk will run the entire length of the crescent, with a pier stretching 100m into the Arabian Gulf at either end.
Nakheel will create the Boardwalk by building over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater.
The West Beach at Palm Jumeirah will stretch for 1.5km along the Palm’s western trunk and a shaded park and promenade with retail kiosks and amenities such as children’s play areas, will also be developed.
Plans also include a beach club facility featuring a single-storey complex of 14 waterfront restaurants, an outdoor seating deck, lounge, gym, swimming pool and terrace.
West Beach will also have parking for 340 cars and nine buses.
