Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California, US, has topped out a 4,762ft² Visitors Center Pavilion as part of its new $22.8m, 30-acre expansion project launched in June 2012.
The expansion project, known as South Lawn Sports + Fitness Complex will feature four tournament-quality soccer fields and four basketball courts.
South Lawn Sports + Fitness Complex will also feature a fitness trail developed in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, a reflecting pond and viewing pier near the Great Park entrance on Marine Way, and a community garden.
Planned to be built near the Great Park Balloon, the Visitors Center Pavilion will replace the temporary visitors centre and will feature a large lobby, restroom facilities, retail area, and office space.
The project will feature a storm water management system designed to meet the South Lawn’s irrigation needs.
The system will have the capacity to store five million gallons of storm water and will capture and filter the water in new retention ponds on the South Lawn.
Orange County Great Park chairman Beth Krom said, "This is the first new vertical construction project at the Great Park and it is fitting that it will serve as the first stop for Great Park visitors when it is completed next summer."
Construction of the South Lawn Sports + Fitness Complex and the Visitors Center Pavilion is expected to be completed in the summer of 2013.
