Rafael Vinoly Architects has submitted plans to Wandsworth Council in the UK for the first phase of the £8bn Battersea Power Station redevelopment in Nine Elms, London.
Phase one of the project will feature two buildings of heights between 8 and 18 storeys to be constructed to the west of the power station building on land that is currently vacant.
The first phase will also feature 800 homes to be built on top of a commercial podium that will include shops, restaurants, a gym, a pool, a spa, a theatre, office studios and a new six-acre park.
The first phase of the redevelopment is anticipated to be complete by 2016.
Wandsworth Council has also received a linked application covering the internal configuration of the residential units, parking and servicing, as well as sustainability, energy and waste strategies.
Wandsworth Council leader and Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership co-chair Ravi Govindia said, "This site is vital to the regeneration of the wider Nine Elms on the South Bank area and in particular the Northern Line Extension."
Earlier in 2012, the Battersea power station site was acquired by a Malaysian consortium, which includes S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees Provident Fund, for £400m.
The overall master plan will cover about 940,000m², including some 3,500 homes and a 2.4ha park.
Plans also include two new Tube stops, which will be built as part of the Northern Line Extension.
In 2011, Wandsworth Council gave planning permission for the project, which is part of the Nine Elms regeneration project.
