Six firms interested in managing People’s Stadium construction

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) has said that six companies have expressed an interest in serving as the construction manager for its new $975m People's Stadium in the US.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) has said that six companies have expressed an interest in serving as the construction manager for its new $975m People’s Stadium in the US.

The interested firms include Gilbane Building Companies, Skanska, Hunt Construction, Kraus-Anderson, Mortenson Construction and Loeffler Construction.

Interested companies will submit their proposals by 21 January 2012 and the winning company is scheduled to be selected on 1 February 2013.

MSFA said that in their proposals, the construction firms will be asked to put together a project timeline, construction schedule and provide a guaranteed maximum price for the new multipurpose stadium.

To be designed by the architecture firm HKS, the stadium will be built on the current Metrodome site in Minneapolis, Minnesota, adding a game-day plaza on the structure’s west side.

"The 1.5mft² stadium will include a fixed-roof to allow year-round activities and will have capacity to accommodate 65,000 spectators."

The new stadium includes an open plaza, optimised sideline seating, wide concourses, more bathrooms, increased and enhanced concessions, space for pre-game events and activities, a team store and 2,500 parking spaces.

The People’s Stadium’s design scheme will include a functional interior that is similar to the baseball park of Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.

MSFA will own and operate the new stadium which is anticipated to open in time for the 2016 football season. The authority will also be responsible for the design and construction of the stadium.
