UAE President's Initiatives Committee has given approval for the construction of the AED1.4bn ($380m) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed residential city in Fujairah.
Planned to be built on an area of 2.2km², the city will have 1,100 residential units including 300 five-room villas, 700 four-room villas and 100 villas for widows and small families.
The complex will also have schools, mosques, clinics, parks, shopping malls and a community centre.
UAE Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi was quoted by WAM as saying that the project will provide better social security for the families: "The Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed City project in the Emirate of Fujairah comes in-line with projects pledged by the leadership for the welfare of citizens, noting that naming the city after Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed comes in recognition of his tireless efforts to serve citizens nationwide."
The committee has already instructed the chosen authorities to start designs and construction plans of the city.
In March this year, Fujairah ruler and supreme council member HH Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi issued a notice for the construction of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed City near Fujairah City.
