The Victorian Government in Australia has selected Exemplar Health consortium as the preferred bidder for the new A$630m ($656m) Bendigo Hospital project.

The Exemplar Health consortium includes Lend Lease, Capella Capital, Siemens and Spotless.

Upon completion, the project will feature a new hospital with 372 new beds, ten new operating theatres, a cancer centre and mental health unit, which will be built on one site at Barnard Street.

Plans also include a helipad, which will be built on top of a new multi-storey car park on the Lucan Street site. A bridge link will connect the car park to the main hospital site.

The project will feature a childcare and wellness centre, 128 serviced apartmentsm, 15 short stay apartments and a 180-seat conference facility.

The project will include a large atrium as the entrance, with retail, cafes and multiple internal courtyards. There will be enhanced landscaping across the entire hospital precinct and minor refurbishment to existing buildings.

Victoria Minister for Regional Cities Denis Napthine said the selection of the consortium is a major milestone for one of the largest regional healthcare projects in Australia.

"This project will generate more than 770 jobs and deliver enormous flow-on benefits for the community," Napthine said.

Lend Lease will invest 50% of the equity in the Bendigo hospital project, which is expected to be completed in 2016.
