Construction firm Willmott Dixon has been selected as Brentford Football Club’s development partner for its new 20,000-seat stadium project in the UK.
The scheme was approved by Hounslow Council planning committee in December 2013, and includes community facilities, 910 new homes, a hotel and supporting retail spaces.
The scheme is subject to referral to the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. A section 106 agreement is still to be concluded.
Following the regeneration, Brentford FC will move from its current Griffin Park stadium, where it has been based since 1904, to the new facility at Lionel Road South.
Willmott Dixon will construct 910 homes on the Lionel Road South site adjacent to the new stadium, and carry out improvements to the local environment and infrastructure.
Willmott Dixon Regen divisional chief executive Andrew Telfer said these proposals will provide facilities to benefit the community as well as the football club. They will attract further inward investment, create business and job opportunities and enhance the area.
"We’re delighted that Brentford Football Club has chosen us as preferred bidder and are looking forward to working with the club to take forward these exciting plans that will deliver a fantastic new stadium and homes in a superb and desirable location, close to good transport links," Telfer said.
The stadium is scheduled to be completed ahead of the 2016-2017 football season.
Willmott Dixon has worked on similar developments in Tower Hamlets, Greenwich and Westminster.
