The New Century Global Centre, which is claimed to be the world’s largest building, has opened in China.
Located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China, the building will feature offices, conference rooms, a university complex, hotels and shopping malls.
The building, which is reported to be about three times the size of the Pentagon in Washington, US, also features a ‘Mediterranean village’, a 14-screen IMAX Cineplex, and an ice-skating rink.
The building will feature 1.7 million m² of floor space capable of housing 20 Sydney Opera Houses.
About 400,000m² of space in the building will be used for shopping and the structure will house a huge water park, known as Paradise Island.
The exterior of the building has been designed as a wave and the marine them is continued inside.
New Century Global Center is situated in the new planned area of Chengdu called the Tainfu New District.
The building will face the Chengdu Contemporary Arts Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
