The Smithsonian Institution has revealed its revised design plans for the $245m National Museum of African American History in the National Mall in Washington DC, US.

The firm agreed to alter its designs after members of the federal panel expressed concerns in September 2010 about a proposed porch overlooking the building, traffic disruption from construction and the surrounding landscape.

The revised plans call for the reduction of the size of skylights, a continuation of a study on night lighting and an increase of green space near the building.

The building will also have a 32ft porch extending into the mall.

The plans for the museum are expected to be reviewed by the National Capital Planning Commission in late 2011.

Construction is slated to begin in 2012 with completion for 2015, according to the Washington Examiner.
