The National Security Agency (NSA) is building a $896.5m high-performance computing centre at its Maryland headquarters in the US.

The new centre will include security features such as a vehicle cargo inspection facility, a visitor control centre, card access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection systems, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear detection systems, and perimeter fencing.

The centre will also feature raised flooring, chilled water systems, fire suppression and alarms.

The facility will aim for LEED Silver certification by conserving water, energy and materials.

NSA is requesting funding of $84.7m for the centre in 2012, including $35m for planning and design followed by $399.9m in 2013 and $431m to complete the centre in 2014.

The centre is expected to be operational by December 2015, as reported in SecurityInfoWatch.com.
