RIBA Announces 2011 Architecture Award Winners

A total of 102 buildings have received awards for architectural excellence from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for 2011.

89 UK buildings have won RIBA awards, and 13 buildings have won RIBA international awards.

Prominent winners include Zaha Hadid for the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton and the Guangzhou Opera House, Norman Foster for the Masdar Institute and Michael Hopkins for the 2012 Olympics Velodrome.

The list of winners features several sustainable buildings and buildings in schools and universities.

Educational projects that received awards include Hackney Council’s BSF project at Stoke Newington School and College, among others.

RIBA president Ruth Reed said that she was looking forward to seeing an exciting RIBA Stirling Prize shortlist this year.
