The Lancaster Institute for Contemporary Arts (LICA) in the UK has received a BREEAM Outstanding rating for the design stage and post-construction review.
LICA is housed in a timber-framed building that was constructed at a cost of £10m.
The building was designed by the Manchester office of architectural firm Sheppard Robson.
The pre-fabricated and cross-laminated timber structure provides good insulation, and also ensured a quick and safe construction programme.
The facility houses an exploratory design research lab christened Imagination at Lancaster.
LICA also features light timber finishes that lend brightness and texture to the interiors.
