CABE’s Selina Mason Appointed Deputy Head of Design at the Olympic Delivery Authority

The emirate has traditionally been seen as a luxury destination with glamorous hotels and extravagant shopping malls, but to hit visitor targets, it will need to appeal to a wider range of travellers.

Selina Mason, CABE’s director of architecture and design review, is to join the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) as its deputy head of design. She will be the ODA’s most senior architect and responsible for securing design quality across the whole Olympic development.

“CABE has been working hard since the ODA was set up to ensure it delivers a well-designed Olympics. Selina’s move is, in many ways, symbolic of our joint commitment to excellent design,” said Richard Simmons, CABE chief executive.

CABE has collaborated closely with the ODA and have seconded staff to lead on commitment to design; to assist with the strategy on inclusive design; and to assist with park development. CABE also runs the London 2012 design review panel, jointly with Design for London, which meets monthly to comment on emerging designs.

After spending six years at CABE, Mason will take up her new role in August.
