The UK’s Arts Council has pulled funding for Architecture Week, the industry’s leading festival.

Held annually in London, the festival has received £250,000 a year for the past 11 years.

The announcement has left the future of the event in doubt but the Arts Council insists it is only ‘assessing whether and how the existing format needs to be changed’.

New London architecture exhibition director Peter Murray told Design Week the move is ‘bizzare’ given the success of this year’s event.

“If you look at the way architecture is moving up the political agenda – planning legislation now require the public to get involved – it is clear that it’s an area moving more and more into public consciousness,” he says.
