A cluster of three glass prisms will soon join the cityscape near East London’s iconic Swiss Re tower – nicknamed ‘the Gherkin’ —following approval by City of London.

The £350m Trinity.EC3 multi-let estate, developed by Beetham Organisation and designed by Foreign Office Architects, is due to be complete in 2012, according to Beetham.

Featuring more than one million square feet of office space and reaching 23 storeys high, the buildings will offer new public spaces using a glass canopy over a series of arcades leading to the London Underground and bus system.

Foreign Office Architects says the design has the buildings “gently tilted in space to adjust the otherwise prismatic volumes to the geometrical specificities of the site”.

The aim is to allow the design to match the irregular contours of the site while reflecting daylight into the public areas.

“The Trinity project is an important regeneration project for one of the most degraded fringe locations in the Eastern edge of the City of London,” the firm says.

Office space in the buildings will be designed at a high quality, according to Beetham, and public space will also be provided on the 23rd floor as well as a restaurant.
