Plans by Richard Rogers to expand the British Museum in London have been rejected by the local authorities, it has been revealed.

The £130m expansion would have housed a five-storey building with three basement levels for an exhibition gallery, conservation laboratories, offices and a collection of storage rooms.

Camden Council declared the project an over development, saying the additional exhibition space would not outweigh the damage to the original museum during the process.
