A competition has been launched to find architects to design the Mid-Cornwall Clay Country Eco-Town in the UK.

The eco-town is one the four sites selected by the government. It housed six former china clay mines and is located adjacent to the Eden Project Orascom Development and Imerys.

The eco-town will create community spaces with more than 5,000 low-carbon homes including business and leisure facilities and a train link.

The scheme will see 2,000 homes being built initially in a phased programme of work.

Practices will have to submit designs before 29 January and a shortlist will be compiled in February prior to the winner being announced later in the year.

The designs will be judged by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Cornwall Council and the Eden Project.
