UK-based architectural firm BDP has secured a contract to design the City of a Thousand Lakes in the financial district of Wuhan, China.
The Wuhan Tahan masterplan is an 18ha office-led, mixed-use development, located in the city centre with close links to Wuhan Plaza business district, the Financial Business Centre and Wangjiadun central business district.
After completion, the scheme will create a gateway for the transition from the city’s old business and trade district to the new one.
BDP’s design will create a new urban complex with two office towers that will integrate office buildings with residential units, a terraced retail and entertainment podium and a hotel.
As per the contract, BDP will provide masterplanning, architecture, public realm and interior design services for the project, which is expected to start later in 2013.
Apart from the City of a Thousand Lakes, BDP has led the design of a shopping mall for InterIKEA China in Wuhan.
InterIKEA’s shopping mall is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
In May 2012, BDP won an international competition to design a new business district in Shanghai, China, for developer Golden Kingdom.
The 350,000m² Hongqiao business district scheme is part of a mixed-use, mixed-density masterplan that will comprise shops, offices and new public spaces.
