The 227m-high tower, named Telus Sky, will feature 341 residential apartments on the upper floors and shops on the ground floor..
Telus Sky will feature a total of 750,000ft² of space, of which about 430,000ft² space will be dedicated for office use. Telus will take 155,000ft² of the office space.
The tower, which will replace the existing Art Central building on 7th Avenue, will feature a 5,500ft² public gallery to exhibit works of local artists.
Telus is expecting to secure LEED Platinum certification for the tower, which is scheduled for completion in late 2017.
Westbank will act as development manager for the project, while BIG and DIALOG are the architects on the project, and will work together to secure municipal approval for the mixed-use project.
Real estate investment trust Allied Properties will provide asset management services for the project.
Telus president and CEO Darren Entwistle said the development will contribute to Calgary’s economic strength, culture and social vitality, and create new jobs.
“Moreover, Telus Sky will enrich the city’s vibrant arts culture by offering inspiring public spaces that will exhibit works of art by local artists, thus creating a truly amazing destination for our team members, the community and indeed all Albertans,” Entwistle said.
Telus Sky is expected to be one of the tallest buildings in Calgary, just 20m shorter than The Bow, the $1.4bn tower designed by UK-based architectural firm Foster + Partners.
