Blackpool Council in the UK has selected Lovell, a subsidiary of Morgan Sindall, as the preferred developer for the £22m redevelopment of Queens Park.
Under the scheme, five tower blocks will be demolished on the council-owned estate and replaced with 198 new homes and apartments over the next six years.
As part of the redevelopment, Lovell will build 108 two, three and four-bedroom houses and 90 apartments, 60 of which have been designed to convert to 30 family homes at a later stage.
In the overall scheme, 180 homes are built for the council, which will be managed by Blackpool Coastal Housing, and 18 properties will be sold on the open market by Lovell.
Designed by Condy Lofthouse Architects, sustainable features of the development include a community garden and a series of formal urban squares with trees marking a pedestrian route.
Lovell said that the scheme has also been designed to improve and make use of the open space on Layton Recreation Ground.
Energy-efficient features of the scheme, including low-energy ventilation systems and condensing boilers, have been included to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Gillian Campbell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Protection said, "We’ve worked closely with existing tenants to help shape the designs and to create a new estate that will help build on the existing community."
Construction work is anticipated to begin in summer 2013.
In April 2012, Southampton City Council in the UK selected Lovell for three estate regeneration projects worth £28m.
