UK-based architectural firm Broadway Malyan has secured planning approval for the construction of the CITIC-owned Hefei ID Mall in eastern China.
The approval will allow the architectural firm to develop its schematic architectural and retail planning design into a fully detailed plan.
Work on the project is being carried out in collaboration with CITIC Capital, which is a unit of CITIC a state-owned investment firm of China.
The 170,000m² retail and office development, including 150m tower, incorporates a range of green features including green roofs and technologies to recycle rainwater and grey water.
Upon completion in 2015, the design will offer a modern 110,000m² shopping mall across six levels in addition to a 60,000m² high-grade office space in the 150m tower.
To be located within the Hefei’s expansion area, the new Hefei ID Mall will directly link to the city’s new metro line to provide easy access for both consumers and office workers.
The office tower serves as a strong counterpoint to the flowing lines and is deliberately angular to emphasise the contrast of uses.
During early 2013, Broadway Malyan’s largest retail centre in China, the Lefo Mall, was commissioned in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province.
Located at the centre of Suzhou’s new Wuzhong Central Business District in the Jiangsu province of eastern China, the new 65,000m² mall features primary void spaces designed with organic forms, bridges and pools in the floorscape to create seating areas.
