UK-based developer and operator of private rental homes Essential Living has selected Brookfield Multiplex for the construction of new residential towers in London.

The £90m Helix project will be located next to the Canary Wharf Estate and consist of two elliptical towers; the 35-storey Easter Tower and the 29-storey Western Tower.

Designed by MAKE Architects’ Ken Shuttleworth, the towers will be connected from the ground up to the fourth floor and will be linked by ‘wish bone’ structures at levels six and 21.

The Helix project will include 395 apartments with a mix of studios and one, two and three-bed private rented flats.

"We’re building and managing homes for long-term rent, and that means they have to still look and function perfectly ten years down the line."

In addition, it will offer around 15,000ft² of dedicated space for roof-top communal terraces, a fitness centre, a resident’s bike store, restaurant facilities, a children’s play area and crèche, a club room, storage rooms and a concierge.

Essential Living construction director Ray Theakston said: "Ensuring quality throughout the development process has been our top priority, we’re building and managing homes for long-term rent, and that means they have to still look and function perfectly ten years down the line.

"Brookfield Multiplex shares our values and objectives and we’re extremely excited to be working with them on such a landmark project."

Construction of the twin towers is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2015.
