West Norfolk Borough Council in the UK has selected Lovell as the preferred bidder for the development of around 600 houses at King’s Lynn.

As part of the £80m project, the council plans to build the homes in the Lynnsport and Marsh Lane area by September 2020.

Of the total number of new-builds, 300 will be kept for sale in open market, 200 will be put up for private rent and 100 will be designated for affordable housing.

"It will help provide much-needed accommodation in [King’s Lynn], as well as helping to stimulate local economic activity."

West Norfolk Borough Council regeneration cabinet member Alistair Beales said: "It will help provide much-needed accommodation in the town, as well as helping to stimulate local economic activity both directly and indirectly.

"We also hope that it will help create jobs and encourage apprenticeships."

In addition to new houses, a new road connecting Benefer Way to Lynnsport would be constructed under the development as well as a new pumping station to reduce the risk of flooding in North Lynn.

Lovell regional director Tony Tann said: "We’re extremely proud that Lovell is set to be appointed as preferred bidder for this important development which will deliver significant benefits locally.

"Alongside new housing for sale, for private rent and affordable homes, it will also bring new community facilities and infrastructure, as well as jobs and training places, including apprenticeships, for local people."

The council is scheduled to announce the bidder on 30 October, following which the first phase of housing is expected to begin in October 2015.
