Footwear manufacturer New Balance has unveiled plans for a $235m expansion of its headquarters in Brighton, Massachusetts, in the US, including four new buildings with offices, restaurants, a hotel and a sports complex.

If approved, the project would be constructed on a 14-acre site of vacant buildings and parking lots on Guest Street. The new ten-storey headquarters will feature 250,000 square feet of office space, with ground floor retail.

It will also include a 15-storey hotel with 175 rooms, multiple 12-storey office buildings spanning an area of 650,000 square feet, plus space for restaurants, shops and a sports facility project.

The proposed hotel would be located next to the headquarters building. The sports facility would contain venues for basketball, tennis, ice hockey, general recreation, a 200m track and field facility plus a fitness / health and wellness facility. The development would also contain 345,000 square feet of dedicated parking space. The project is aiming to minimise its environmental impact and will have more usable open space than the current facilities.

In 2011, New Balance paid $26.5m for two properties on Guest Street. Marathon Realty, which owned the vacant Barry Controls manufacturing plant, sold the site to New Brighton Landing, a division of New Balance, for $21.2m.

New Balance also bought the Massachusetts Electric Construction site for $5.3m. The company wants to start construction by spring of 2013.
