Belmont Park soccer stadium in US

The New York Cosmos has submitted a proposal to the New York’s Empire State Development to construct a $400m soccer stadium at Belmont Park racetrack in Nassau County, US.

Planned to be built on 28 acres of land in Nassau County, the stadium will have seating for 25,000 people after completion.

The proposal, called Elmont Crossings, will transform two sections of Belmont Park into an entertainment complex and create nine new restaurants, about 250,000ft² of retail space, a 175-room hotel, and a 4.3-acre public park.

Plans also include a smaller soccer field, which will be constructed on the premises, and a commitment to beautify the surrounding landscape.

The Elmont Crossings project will also involve transportation improvements, including improved access, enhanced parking options and better circulation for vehicles and pedestrians.

If approved, the New York Cosmos expects to break ground on the stadium in 2014 with scheduled opening in spring 2016.

Retail establishments in the stadium are anticipated to open in the autumn of 2015.

The construction will be led by Turner Construction and firm McKissack and McKissack, while architecture and construction companies like Populous, Spector Group and Cameron Engineering will be involved in the project.

New York Cosmos chairman and CEO Seamus O’Brien said Belmont is an ideal location for the stadium.

“Nassau County and Elmont will realise much needed economic growth, and local residents will have a year-round premier destination they can call their own,” O’Brien said.

New York Cosmos said it will invest $2.5m for the redesign and development of the local community soccer fields.
