Saudi Arabia’s Justice Ministry is set to invest SAR1.22bn ($325.2m) in the construction of 22 new buildings for courts and public notaries in ten different cities of the country.

According to Justice Minister Mohammed Al-Eissa, the development process will move ahead with the support of King Abdullah, who is also the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, reported Arab News.

"The ministry has also established 320 judicial councils with 960 judges for the project."

The projects are part of the King Abdullah Judicial Development project.

Divided into three phases, the first phase of the construction will see development of a criminal court and a specialised criminal court in Jeddah, a specialised criminal appeals court, as well as a criminal court, a court for implementation of verdicts and a civil court in Madinah.

During phase two, a criminal court in Dammam, a general court in Al-Rass, a general court in Unaizah, and a general and criminal court in Al-Ahsa will be built.

The third and final stage of the project will see the Saudi Ministry constructing a general court in Qatif, a general court in Alkhobar, a general court in Rafha, and a general and criminal court in Hail.

All of the new courts will be built near the prisons. The ministry has also established 320 judicial councils with 960 judges for the project.
