Real estate company Scarborough Development has unveiled plans for a one million sqaure feet mixed-use development at Middlewood Locks in Salford, UK.

The development will feature 347 family homes, shops and community facilities, alongside 325,888 sqaure feet of retail, leisure and commercial space.

In February 2012, Scarborough acquired the 21-acre site near Manchester city centre from Grant Thornton, which acted as administrator to prior owners Valley & Vale Properties, for a reported £10m.

As per the plans, the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal, which bisects the site, will be subject to environmental improvements and woodland planting to transform into a green focal feature.

Scarborough Development director Lee Savage said: "Middlewood Locks is a huge site which has the potential to create a thriving new neighbourhood for Salford, bringing an opportunity for a range of homes and jobs."

The developer is in plans to submit a planning application for the scheme in early 2013, which is expected to bring about £15m to the local and regional economy.

Scarborough’s project team for the development includes architects Studio Egret West and development consultants RED Property Service.

In October 2012, Scarborough had submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council in the United Kingdom for a £400m mixed-use development at Thorpe Park, near Junction 46 of the M1 motorway.

The new development at Thorpe Park will add about 1.2 million sqaure feet of office space to the existing 600,000 sqaure feet of business space at Thorpe Park.
