Royal Oldham Hospital in UK

Vinci Construction UK has topped out the £32.8m women and children’s facility at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The new five-storey facility will include a paediatric theatre, two obstetric theatres, delivery suites, post natal wards and a gynaecological out patients centre.

The facility will also feature an endoscopy unit, paediatric day and case wards, A&E observation unit, surgical triage and a 30-bed assessment unit.

Vinci Construction UK regional director of building division for the North Mark Thomas said, “The new building will serve as a modern and cutting-edge healthcare facility, which will stand to serve the local communities of Oldham for many years to come.”

In November 2010, Integrated Health Projects (IHP), a joint venture between Vinci Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, secured a contract for construction of the facility.

Under the deal, Vinci also renovated 2,700m² of the existing wards in the first floor, including the ante-natal clinic and day case wards, a gynaecological assessment unit, early pregnancy unit with overnight stay and a midwife led unit.

The Royal Oldham hospital is the fourth project Vinci undertook for The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust clinical director and consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology Sola Amu said that the development at Oldham will improve maternity, paediatric and neonatal services across Greater Manchester.

“With this development we will see significant improvements in the quality of care and facilities for women and children,” Amu said.

The project is scheduled for completion in November 2013.
