Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) has closed the acquisition of Brightly Software, a US-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider of asset and maintenance management solutions.

This deal is expected to help SI bolster its position in the software market for construction and built infrastructure.

It also adds Brightly’s cloud-based competencies across education, public infrastructure, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors to Siemens’ digital and software expertise in buildings.

Based in Cary, North Carolina, Brightly has approximately 800 employees serving around 12,000 customers, primarily across the US, Canada, UK and Australia.

Post completion of the deal, Brightly has now a part of Siemens SI, reporting to its CEO.

Siemens managing board member, and Smart Infrastructure CEO Matthias Rebellius said: “We’re delighted to welcome Brightly to the Siemens family. Together with Brightly, we can take buildings to the next level of performance and strengthen Siemens’ standing in the fast-growing market of buildings and built infrastructure.”

“We see substantial value creation potential and growth opportunities from coupling the offerings under Siemens Xcelerator and Brightly’s well-established SaaS business and customer base.”

Siemens signed a binding agreement to acquire Brightly in June this year.

After this announcement, Siemens launched an open digital business platform, called Siemens Xcelerator, to speed up digital transformation and to create value for customers, irrespective of their sizes in industry, buildings, grids and mobility.

Brightly chief executive officer Kevin Kemmerer said: “This marks an exciting milestone in Brightly’s history as we join Siemens. With digital transformation and ESG mandates on the rise, our global community is at a crossroads – one that requires intelligent software solutions to transform the performance of infrastructure assets.”

“Together with Siemens, we’re well positioned to help our clients across the world build a future where efficient operations and smart assets power sustainable communities.”

Seven billion people are expected to live in urban areas by 2050. In addition to this trend and the need for managing climate change, smart and sustainable communities and infrastructure have become more important, stated Siemens.

Siemens aims to construct smart communities, powered by digitalisation and intelligent systems.
