Scott of the Antarctic Completes Charity Ice Marathon

An intrepid runner from Devizes-based Wrightstyle, which supplies glass and steel systems worldwide, has successfully completed the world’s coldest and most arduous marathon.

Scott Mulligan, who is a CAD draughtsman with Wrightstyle, finished the annual Antarctic Ice Marathon in a commendable time of 5hr and 16min, crossing the line in ninth place.

The marathon course mainly consisted of compacted snow, with wind-chill temperatures falling as low as minus 20°C. The course started and finished at the marathon’s base camp, just a few hundred miles from the South Pole at the foot of the Ellsworth Mountains.

It is a truly formidable Antarctic challenge with strong Katabatic winds to also contend with and taking place at an altitude of 3,000ft. More remarkably, this was Scott’s first marathon event. He was raising money for the British Red Cross, and was also sponsored by Wrightstyle. Denis Wright, the company’s chairman, said that “everyone at Wrightstyle is immensely proud of Scott’s achievements.”

You can read Scott’s blog of his memorable exploits at Wrightstyle’s website.
