The project will be developed in five phases with completion expected in five years.

Saudi Arabia-based Nesma & Partners will construct the first phase of the project, which includes ten towers, while the four-tower second phase will be built by Baytur Construction and Azmeel Contracting & Construction.

Jabal Omar Development, while unveiling plans, said that designs are being drawn for the fourth and fifth phases, with completion expected in six months.

The 544-acre development site, which will incorporate 38 hotel towers managed by 28 companies and a shopping centre, is likely to add 13,500 rooms to Makkah’s hospitality industry upon completion.

Hotel operators Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels, Hilton Hotels and Sheraton will manage hotel properties on the development.

The development, about 300m from the Grand Mosque, will feature a prayer area to host 65,000 worshipers.

Jabal Omar Development was set up to invest $3.2bn in Makkah and is currently developing 2.2 million m² of land near the Grand Mosque.
